What to see

Life and legend go hand in hand in Hathersage, Charlotte Bronte stayed with the vicar when gathering material for her famous novel "Jane Eyre" in which the village of Morton is founded in Hathersage. Perhaps the best known legendary connections concern a nailmaker in the village whose name was "Little John" the stout henchman of Robin Hood. His grave can be found in Hathersage churchyard, but go inside the peaceful 14th century church and ponder over 600 years of events and history of Hathersage.
Opposite the car park in the village is the heated open air swimming pool which is very popular during the summer months. The picturesque villages of Bakewell, Eyam and Castleton are nearby where you can see many examples of the "Blue John" stone where the mines are still worked. Chatsworth "Palace of the Peak" the stately home of the Duke of Devonshire in a pleasant drive away.
Chatsworth, the home of the Duke of Devonshire, is a most pleasant drive away. There, can be seen, many examples of the famous 'Blue John' stone. The mines are still worked and can be seen at Castleton.
